May 3, 2022: WNDC on SCOTUS

The Woman’s National Democratic Club has for 100 years put energy into advances for society and women—more women public leaders, more exposure for underrepresented authors and creators, more protection of natural resources, more sanity in gun safety policy, etc. So it is deeply alarming that we face a retreat in the rights of women, as signaled in the leaked SCOTUS opinion that essentially overturns Roe v. Wade. As the partisan divide has deepened and become more extreme, we must prioritize our common trust in the best of humanity, and lift up leaders who will not bring us backward.

WNDC renews our calls to policymakers (and yes, that includes an activist conservative Court) to respect the liberties of every individual in the United States. We stand with caregivers, activists, and a majority of Americans in defending women’s rights to make decisions about their own bodies. And we will act on multiple fronts to elect Democrats, to advocate for resources, and to protect the infrastructure that allows women the right to choose.

—Laura Whitaker | President, Woman’s National Democratic Club
