Dr. Dean Baker, now Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC, was previously a senior economist for the Economic Policy Institute, a consultant for the World Bank, and has testified several times before the U.S. Congress. He has written extensively on the bubble economy over the last decade and was one of the first economists to recognize the stock and housing bubbles and explicitly warn of the risk of their collapse. His blog, 'Beat the Press,' features commentary on economic reporting. In addition to his most recent book co-authored with Jared Bernstein, “Getting Back to Full Employment: a Better Bargain for Working People”, his other books include “The United States Since 1980” and “The Conservative Nanny State: How the Wealthy Use the Government to Stay Rich and Get Richer”. His columns have appeared in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Financial Times, the Guardian, the American Prospect, and Truthout, and he is a frequent guest on TV talk shows. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Baker will sign copies of his latest book, co-authored with Jared Bernstein, “Getting Back To Full Employment: A Better Bargain for Working People”, for sale after the program.
