Election 2012

2008 and Beyond: A WNDC Platform for the Democratic Party published by the Public Policy Committee of the Woman's National Democratic Club. Editor, Elizabeth Spiro Clark

At the request of the Democratic National Committee and to assist grassroots debate going into the 2008 Democratic Party convention, the WNDC Public Policy Committee published “A WNDC Platform for the Democratic Party”. The 26 page publication draws on the expertise of the Committee’s eleven Task Force Chairs. It has separate sections covering: Economy and Budget, Foreign Policy and National Security, Environment, Energy and National Resources, Human Rights, Health and Social Security, Education, Democracy, Preserving our Constitution and Immigration. Some of the positions advanced by the WNDC were pathbreaking and are now official policy, enshrined in new legislation.

Much remains to be done. The recommendations of “2008 and Beyond” are still relevant and the mistakes of the past we documented still uncorrected. To quote from the Introduction: “To say that left alone, market forces will create jobs is a mistake. To say, as Republicans do, that government must be small is a mistake. We cannot build practical solutions to problems or plans to realize opportunities and dreams on that false idea."
